One of the most common tests for measuring the strength of men and women are pushups. This simple but very effective exercise has become synonymous for sportiness, punishment and heavy training. It’s hard to say exactly when and how they occurred, but they certainly owe their affirmation to the military. There, pushups are main part of the physical training of the soldiers. You can do this exercise wherever you want. You do not need extra space or some kind of equipment. You will only need your will and determination not to quit after few sets.
Muscles which are most affected with this exercise are chest muscles and triceps. But, the beautiful thing in this exercise is that it also affects on the shoulder muscles, stomach muscles and legs.

1. Chest pushups
This variation is considered to be the basic one. Main target group are your chests. The more you are spreading your hands, the more it emphasizes the engagement of the chest muscles. If you are an advance level practitioner, try to lift your legs on some box or chair.
2. Triceps pushups
If you get your arms closer to each other, you are putting more hard work on your arms, especially on the triceps. These ones are called diamond because in order to do them right, you need to form a diamond on the floor with your thumb and forefinger.
3. Shoulder press
These pushups are extremely difficult to be done. They are doing much pressure on the shoulders, making them round and solid. But, be sure that you are warmed up enough before you do them.
4. For stronger stomach
This exercise is also called spiderman pushups. When you lower your body done, make sure that you lift your leg to the elbow. Do this exercise alternating the both legs.
